Sanctuary of Maria SS. del Tindari - Rocca of Capri Leone

The sanctuary dedicated to Maria SS. del Tindari is the most fascinating place in the urban center of Rocca, located on the top of the rocky spur which gives its name to the whole town. Originally this rock above Palazzo Cupane housed a dovecote which, during the war events of the Second World War, was transformed into a watchtower and air-raid shelter. At the end of the war and on the occasion of the diocesan visit of the Black Madonna, this place was used as a sanctuary, but only in 1986 it took on the aspect that we can admire today with the towering monumental statue of the Virgin made by Andrea Trisciuzzi and placed on top of a a high pedestal. The interior of the rooms consists of a small church, excavated along an ascending path in the bare rock, interspersed with statues and stained glass windows with a unique charm.
