The monastery of S. Michele Arcangelo

The Monastery of S. Michele Arcangelo, a fundamental monument in the history of the town, was rebuilt in 1084 by Count Ruggero di Altavilla. Of the original building, intended in 1879 as a cemetery, only the cloister and the bell tower of the church remain covered with majolica tiles, which bears on the top the image of S. Michele, forged in iron sheet.
