Saracen tower

Built between the tenth and twelfth centuries, it had purposes of control and defense of the surrounding area due to its strategic position overlooking the vast stretch of coast from Capo d'Orlando to Capo Calavà and the hinterland of the valley of the Sant 'torrent Angel from which Infondo, behind the Nebrodi mountains, you can see the majestic bulk of Etna. The crenellated tower, built in sandstone, is circular in plan and is 16 meters high. The main door, located at half the height of the architectural body, can be reached via an iron staircase hooked to the outside of the building. Internally the tower is structured on two overlapping levels and connected to each other with internal stairs. Beyond these on the top there is a terrace bordered by battlements from which you can get lost in a beautiful 360 degree view. The interior of the building today serves as an exhibition space.
