Church and convent of the Order of Capuchin Friars Minor - Myrtle

The monumental complex of the convent of the Capuchin friars minor, built in 1844, is located close to the provincial road and represents the highest point in the historic center of Mirto. The convent, annexed to the Church, cannot be visited today because it is awaiting restoration. The Church welcomes the visitor with its simple, reworked facade. The interior, with a single nave, preserves interesting works such as the statue of the Immaculate Conception placed on the high altar and attributable to the hand of Vincenzo Genovese, an ancient wooden crucifix dating from the seventeenth-eighteenth century and two paintings depicting a San Vito and l the other is the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Adjacent to the church in a submissive position, there is the Crypt with a strainer, where the friars' bodies were placed. Inside there are ancient wooden sculptures awaiting a conservative restoration.
