Church of Maria SS. Annunziata - Capri Leone

The construction of this church dating back to the sixteenth century. it is linked to the arrival in town of the splendid marble sculpture of the Annunziata, work of 1533 by the famous sculptor Antonello Gagini. The three-nave church is characterized externally by the soaring cuspidate bell tower and, inside, by the presbytery area where you can admire the Gaginian sculpture in the center of a red marble altar surrounded by frescoes. Also interesting is the side chapel which houses the wooden crucifix of the seventeenth century. revival of the old chapel in the demolished Mother Church. In the building there is also the processional wooden copy of the Annunciation, inserted in a rich fercolo and a marble stoup from the 16th century. The church, however, restored in 2012, complains about the lack of its ancient paintings, stolen after the place of worship was declared unfit for use after the 1978 earthquake.
