Mother Church San Michele Arcangelo - Longi

The Mother Church of Longi, dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel, was built on an embankment which is accessed via two stairways in local marble stone. The building, of very simple architecture, was built in stone, terracotta and mortar and, over time, has undergone several construction changes, probably to adapt to the houses that stood around it. The facade is asymmetrical with the right side occupied by the bell tower of fifteenth century taste, recently restored. Above the entrance portal, dating back to the eighteenth century, a stained glass window depicting St. Michael the Archangel was installed in 1996. The church, with a Latin cross plan, is divided into three naves by pillars ending with round arches. Inside you can admire valuable works such as the Choir, dated 1654, made of carved walnut wood and richly decorated in Sicilian Baroque style of the school of Maestro Vanaria, the Cantoria of 1631, the statue of SS. Crucifix and a bust of the Ecce Homo, both attributable to the wooden sculpture of Giovanni Francesco Pintorno, the 16th century statues of Mary Help of Christians, attributed to the school of Gagini and San Michele Arcangelo XVII century and three valuable paintings from the late 1700s painted oil.
