Church of San Pietro - Raccuja

The church dedicated to St. Peter the Apostle is of medieval origin and was built for the munificence of the town's baron, Berengario Orioles in the 14th century. It was built close to a pre-existing watchtower dating back to the Arab period in charge of controlling the valley of the Sinagra stream. The building, externally, is characterized by the bell tower of 1568. The interior, today, has two naves since the third was demolished in the second half of the eighteenth century to make way for the adjacent road. The style is mixed with Romanesque and Gothic elements, as can be seen from the difference in the arches of the aisles and the presbytery, respectively in the round with Corinthian capitals the first and the second with pointed arches. An important artistic work inside the building is the wooden altar with a tabernacle in green enamel and gold leaf.
