Mother Church Maria SS. Addolorata - Torrenova

This cult building, whose foundation dates back to the early nineteenth century, is dedicated to Maria SS. Addolorata, patroness of the Municipality of Torrenova. Externally it is characterized by the simple facade inscribed between the adjoining rooms of the parsonage and the parish hall and the bell tower behind it. The single nave interior houses works of art ascribable between the late eighteenth and the first half of the twentieth: the eighteenth-century painting on the main altar depicting the Madonna of the Rosary is particularly important, enhanced by a complex golden frame. Other works present are the statue in wax and telacolla of the Addolorata, a wooden crucifix, a stoup in Rosso di San Marco marble and other sculptures in Lecce papier-mâché.
