Silkworm house

This small museum space, hosted in Palazzo Ferraloro was created with the aim of showing visitors the various stages of silk processing, from the breeding of the worm to the production of the fine yarn. The Casa del baco also wants to remember the thriving artisan activities of Ficarra which, until the mid-1900s, were specialized in the production and trade of silk.

In Ficarra, as in the entire Nebrodi area, the cultivation of silkworms has been a resource for many centuries. The silkworm cycle and the frame processing technique can be seen in the structure which houses the reconstruction of a typical nineteenth-century environment. From April to September it is possible to see the metamorphosis of the live worm in the various phases.

The museum is open and can be visited every day.
