Antiquarium of Gioiosa Marea

The small Antiquarium of Gioiosa Marea is an exhibition space that houses the numerous finds discovered in the 1980s during the archaeological excavations that brought to light, on Monte Meliuso near Gioiosa Guardia, the remains of an ancient human settlement of pre-Hellenic origin. In the exhibition space you can admire, in the center of the room, large containers used for the storage and stowage of grains. Around these objects there are display cases that hold objects of daily life, mostly consisting of pottery, kitchen sets and grave goods belonging to the end of the Bronze Age beginning of the Iron Age (XII century BC) up to the 4th century BC, age of Greek domination. The exhibition includes the didactic reconstruction of an ancient wool weaving loom.
