Convent of San Francesco - Patti

The construction of the convent of San Francesco d'Assisi seems to have started in 1222 by Sant'Antonio da Padova, in that period in Sicily. In the twentieth century it housed elementary schools, but also the Gymnasium, the high school, the technical institutes, but it was also the seat of the Magistrate's Court and accommodation for the military. It was abandoned in 1978, due to the damage caused by the earthquake. The adjoining church is currently closed for worship, damaged by the bombings of 1943.
