Episcopal Seminary of Patti

The Episcopal Seminary of Patti, commissioned by one of the fathers of the Council of Trent, Bartolomeo Sebastian, bishop of Patti from 1549 to 1567. Born as a school of the Cathedral, the altar boys studied there.

On March 27, 1588, Bishop Gilberto Isfar y Corillas (1579-1600), having endowed the Institute with an annual income, ensured a stable form of coexistence for the young clerics and assigned a small building close to the House for this purpose. episcopal.

Vincenzo Napoli, bishop of Patti from 1609 to 1648 undertook to consolidate the nascent College, creating a place, next to the Cathedral, to welcome boarders and providing what was necessary for the lessons.

On December 16, 1656, Bishop Ludovico Alfonso de Los Cameros promulgated its foundation and deducted some income from the Cathedral, including that of the canteen, and allocated them to the seminary. Thus the boarding school, the grammar and singing school, the catechism school were ensured and a "Libraria" was established.

In 1783 the viceroy Domenico Caracciolo recognized the seminary school as a Liceo Regio Nazionale whose qualifications allowed the students to access university studies.

Following the damage caused by the earthquake of 1908 and the bombings of 1943, bishop Giuseppe Pullano (1953-1977), on April 27, 1960, started the renovation and expansion of the entire building which was completed in 1964 .
