Church of Sant'Antonio da Padova - San Salvatore di Fitalia

The church of Sant'Antonio da Padova was built around the 16th century. the single-nave interior has been remodeled according to the neoclassical taste and houses popular statues, including that of the titular saint placed on the main altar. Particular is also the beautiful fercolo in gilded wood. According to historiographical sources, when Count Ruggero entrusted these fiefdoms to the diocese of Patti and Messina, the two counterparts chose San Calogero and Sant 'Antonio as patron saints respectively, thus leaving the municipality divided in two until 1820. Palm Sunday the procession takes place where the two saints meet in the square for a common prayer. But because of controversies related to a narrow alley in which only one vara can pass at a time, it was decided that in alternate years first one and then the other transits.
