Church of Santa Caterina - Galati Mamertino

The Church of Santa Caterina has a nave with six chapels hollowed out in the side walls, three on each side, separated by Corinthian stone columns. Inside you can admire: a Gaginian marble statue of the Saint from 1550, a wooden statue of the Immaculate Conception by Girolamo Bagnasco from the 16th century and a 17th century wooden crucifix by Fra Umile da Petralia, a work of extreme beauty and value. In addition, there are some paintings of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries including the Deposition and the Holy Family with Saints Anna, Gioacchino, and Giovanni attributed to Tresca. The triumphal arch reads the date 1551 which indicates the year of the last restoration, the construction of the Church, however, seems to date back to the first period of Norman domination.
