Church of San Giovanni Battista - San Marco d'Alunzio

587/5000 The church of San Giovanni Battista, in San Marco d'Alunzio, was the seat of the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament, one of the first to be established in the town in 1540. Built around the middle of the 16th century, it seems to have remained unchanged for centuries until 1987, the year of its restoration. All sides of the church are made with large ashlars. On the right side it is possible to see an excavation with tombs from the Hellenistic period. A 17th century painting on canvas is preserved on the altar. The feast dedicated to the saint who bears the name of the church is celebrated every year on June 24th.
