Church of the Rosary - Alcara li Fusi

This religious building dates back to the Norman period, precisely to 1163, although today's appearance has undergone Renaissance changes. Originally the Church was located in the open countryside but with the twentieth-century urban expansion it found itself fully part of the inhabited center. Externally, the Church is very characteristic because of the beautiful porch and the battlements that enrich the volume. The portal, in local limestone, has a papal coat of arms on the top, perhaps an element referring to Pope Leo II, an Alcharan citizen. The interior, with a single nave, preserves two very interesting works of art: the marble all-round effigy of the late fifteenth / early sixteenth century attributed to Domenico Gagini which portrays the Madonna della Catena and a large canvas of 1667 depicting the Visitation, work by Giuseppe Tomasi from Tortorici.
