Monument to San Nicolò Politi

At the entrance of the inhabited center, at the end of the 20th century, a monument was dedicated to the figure of San Nicolò Politi, patron saint of Alcara. The Saint Anacoreta, born in Adrano in 1117 from one of the noblest families of the town, who came of age as a wife, expressed his will to consecrate his life to the Lord and fled the house before the wedding. He found a cave as a first refuge on the slopes of Etna, where he lived there for three years, but when he learned that his father was on his trail, he decided to abandon that place and go beyond the Nebrodi Mountains. During the journey, he stayed in the Monastery of Maniace where he met San Lorenzo, who pointed out to him the Monastery of Santa Maria del Rogato, in Alcara Li Fusi, as a reference point. Once he arrived near Alcara San Nicolò Politi settled in the Hermitage Cave where he lived until his death without ever setting foot in the village.
