Abbot Fountain

Alcara Li Fusi throughout the Nebrodi area is renowned for its great abundance of spring water that flows from the bowels of the steep rocky mountains that dominate the town. One of these springs is channeled into the Abate Fountain, the most famous and important source in the country which quenches the inhabitants since very ancient times. In fact, its origins are said to date back to the pre-Arab era. The architectural body of the structure, with a monumental aspect enriched by pinnacles and sculptures, sees the perpetual flow of seven huge bronze cannoli of very fresh water that pours into a clear drinking trough. Above these, centrally placed is an eagle carved in stone that supports an inscription in Latin dating back to the sixteenth century and attributed to Donadei, who declaims the purity and freshness of the waters.
