Votive shrine in San Luca di Demenna

Going along a road that departs from the Borgo di Stella, you come across a small votive shrine dedicated to San Luca di Demenna Abate. According to historical hypotheses, Demenna, an important Byzantine city which gave the name to Valdemone and which was destroyed by the Arabs in the eighth century, would have been located on top of one of the rocky massifs overlooking Alcara. In that city, around 918, San Luca was born, entered the Monastery of San Filippo di Agira and then moved to Basilicata. The small newsstand really wants to remember the figure of indigenous holiness of this land forgotten by history books.
