Rocche del Crasto

The Rocche del Crasto, natural elements characterizing the territory of Alcara, are rock formations made up of crystalline and luminous rocks and dolomitic limestone dating back to the Mesozoic era. In the north-west part of the Rocche is the territory dominated by the Griffins, recently repopulated of these splendid birds of prey thanks to a reintroduction intervention carried out by the Nebrodi Park. In the south-eastern part, there is the nest of the only family of Royal Eagle present in Eastern Sicily. According to historical sources, on the top of the Rocca del Crasto stood the ancient Sican city of Krastos, an anthropic presence evidenced by remains and artifacts. It is certified that the Greek poet Epicarmo, inventor of the Comedy, was a native of the city of Krastos. The location of the Byzantine Demenna is also hypothesized on these mountains. The Rocche del Crasto fall in the municipalities of Alcara Li Fusi and Longi.
