Church of San Nicola di Mira - Alcara li Fusi

The Church of San Nicola di Mira is located in the Rocca district near Mount Calvario. According to sources, the building dates back to the fifteenth century, but oral tradition says that the Church dedicated to the cult of the Holy Bishop already existed since the Middle Ages. It is said, in fact, that the parents of San Nicolò Politi, before his birth, came here on pilgrimage directly from Adrano to ask for the grace of a son to the Saint, then very revered. Externally the building is characterized by the pointed arched portal. The interior, with a single nave, is completely stripped of works of art. Recently, the building, usually not accessible to the public, was made accessible on FAI (Italian Environment Fund) days.
